Impact mapping is a strategic, collaborative planning technique that, through visualization, surfaces the hidden assumptions, interpretations and intentions that often derail a product development effort. By focusing first on required business outcomes and then drilling down to deliverables, impact maps provide a focus for informed discussion and decision-making about which products/projects/features to prioritize. Impact maps facilitate collaboration between senior decision-makers in the business, customers and technical developers; support definition of fitness-for-purpose through identifying required changes in actors’ behavior, together with the metrics to measure them; help manage road-maps by focusing on business outcomes rather than pre-set scope limits. In this course you learn how to create, as well as use, impact maps.
