What is this course about? This course builds on the introduction to Cisco routers provided in Course 466, Cisco® Networking: A Comprehensive Hands-On Introduction. Through hands-on exercises, you gain the advanced knowledge and skills needed to install, configure and troubleshoot Cisco routers in today's large and complex networks. The goal of this course is to provide you with a thorough understanding of internetworking in a multiprotocol environment using Cisco routers. Who will benefit from this course? This course is valuable for network managers, technicians, consultants and designers who are involved in planning and implementing internetworks with Cisco routers. What background do I need? It is assumed that you have a fundamental understanding of internetworking concepts and have some experience with router configuration. Course 466 provides the background knowledge you need. What kinds of routers does the course use? We use Cisco routers (2600 series) in this course. The command syntax and principles described in this course are applicable to any model of configurable Cisco router. Will I have access to a router? Yes. Each workstation has its own router (two participants at each workstation). Most of the hands-on exercises allow each group to work independently, but the WAN interfaces exercise requires connection with another group. What will I be able to do after completing this course that I am not able to do now? At the end of this course you will be able to: Have familiarity with Cisco router configuration using command line syntax Configure interior/exterior routing protocols Understand OSPF configuration; you configure the scalable IP-based routing protocols, including EIGRP, OSPF and BGP Understand the concept of variable length subnet masking and route summarization Understand the concepts and implications of building large scale internetworks Deploy access control on a Cisco router Configure traffic filtering in your internetwork Discuss and identify the issues related to wide area networking using frame relay Configure queuing in support of multiservice operation How does this course prepare me for the Cisco Certified Professional exams? This course covers many of the topics contained in both the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and the Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) Internetworks exams. Each workstation will have a computer running Windows XP. This system is used to interact with the router using a terminal emulator and a TFTP server.
